The LIAAS, formally known as The Nassau-Suffolk Allergy Society, is a non-profit organization formed by a small group of Allergy/Immunology specialists to help educate and update practicing allergists on Long Island. The Society is currently 63 members strong and includes allergists in New York city as well. Today's goals include:
-
Regular scientific updates in the fields of allergy and asthma.
Provide information to members regarding state and national changes in policy or practice parameters, managed care updates, and other issues initiated by the AAAAI, MYSSNY, JCAI, ACAAI, AAFA or local and national university based training and research programs.
Act as a medium for the exchange of ideas related to our specialty between members, pharmaceutical representatives, lecturers, and medical school faculty.
Act as a forum for members to offer ideas, ask questions, help change local and national policy as it relates to our specialty.
Act as a conduit of information related to allergic disorders.
Continued source of education related to scientific, academic, and practice related issues.
Be integral in maintaining a strong presence as allergists and immunologists toward the public, other specialties, and other third party payers. Maintaining the highest quality of patient care in the field of allergy, asthma, and immunology to be reviewed.
Continue to maintain donations and other support mechanisms that bolster training programs which in turn ensure a continued presence of new physicians into the field of allergy and clinical immunology. Without new members our field will wane by attrition allowing our influence and presence to erode.
Improve relations and communications with the NYSSAAI, MSSNY, AAAAI, ACAAI, and JCAI.
